Special Interest Groups

FCHS provides plenty of opportunities for members to meet and share information on all things horticultural.  There are monthly General Meetings which cover topics of wide-ranging interests and also regular meetings for the special interest groups.  Click on one of the links below for more information.

The aim of the group is to diminish the fear of formal flower arranging by encouraging members to view their gardens in a new way. The group ill cover getting the most out of your cut flowers, including how to maintain longevity during exhibits, the handiest tools, tricks of the trade, floral aids, vessels to use, gift wrapping, making memorial wreaths, and festive flowers.

**Note the first 2 meetings are as follows:

  • 23 March 2026 – 10.30am
  • 23 April 2026 (Nb – Thurs) – 10.30am

You will be in great hands with Veronika, who having worked in the florist industry, decided to only create arrangements that were seasonal and garden sourced. Now, semi-retired, she will share her love of creating floral bouquets with the Ferny Creek Horticultural Society.

New members welcome, but numbers are strictly limited so please RSVP to secretary@fchs.org.au for more information. All FCHS members are welcome to participate.

Most groups conduct monthly meetings concentrating on the development of their particular specialty. The meetings offer interesting talks by informed speakers, discussion groups, garden visits and practical sessions. These meetings also include presentations by attendees of plants and flowers from their gardens (which do not have to be of Show quality, nor do they need to be rare or unusual specimens). It is an opportunity to show what is growing well in your garden and to obtain help with identification of plants or advice for plants that are not thriving. The General Meetings also have raffles with rare and unusual plants as prizes and afternoon teas are provided on a bring-a-plate basis.
